Iyengar yoga is defined as “a meditation in action,” as the practitioner voluntarily deploys their attention to specific places in their bodies and learns to diffuse it throughout. Through this practice the mind becomes consumed in the present moment and becomes inwardly focused and quiet.
Iyengar yoga takes each asana one at a time and breaks down specific actions and responses within the pose. This work helps students utilize the asana to uncover imbalances in the body. The Iyengar teacher uses specific instruction and physical demonstration to guide students through the asana.
