Kira Gilmer
Yoga Therapist, C-IAYT, E-RYT, Viniyoga 500 teacher, Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher
Kira began her yoga practice in Seattle in 2005 where she worked as a trauma critical care nurse. She found her practice healed her body and regulated her nervous system. Her experience stimulated her interest in yoga philosophy so after a decade in critical care/ICU nursing, Kira decided to focus her energy on deepening her yoga knowledge and teaching what she learned and experienced from her exploration of the yoga tradition.
Kira is a certified yoga therapist and yoga teacher. She completed her 1,000 hours of yoga therapy studies with Gary Kraftsow through the American Viniyoga Institute. Her personal experience with this breath-centric tradition from the lineage of Krishnamacharya, the "grandfather of vinyasa", has informed and transformed her personal practice and offerings as a yoga teacher. While originally trained in classical modern yoga, her teaching has evolved to create effective vinyasa sequencing for the physical body and the use of breathwork (pranayama) to influence the energetic body to prepare oneself for meditation for deep transformation.
She thoroughly enjoys Temple Yoga Reno's diverse offerings, healing orientation and close-knit community of teachers and students. Kira offers individual and small group yoga therapy work at the Midtown Mindfulness Collective.
