Class begins with a brief explanation of the five Vayus (Wind or channels of life force) and Ujjayi Pranayama (Victory Breath). Since Ujjayi is the breathing technique used in vinyasa flow yoga, I will take the time to instruct this powerful breath while moving through a shoulder and upper thoracic spine sequence designed to open and stimulate the lung meridians. The sequence includes Sun Salutations A and B (Surya Namaskar A and B), Dolphin Pose (Ardha Pincha Mayurasana), Thread the Needle (Parsva Balasana), Prayer Twist (Parivrtta Parsvakonasana Namaste), Warrior 1 with Cow Face arms (Virabhadrasana 1 with Gomukh arms), Goddess Pose with Eagle arms (Utkata Konasana with Garuda arms, Locust Pose variations (Shalambasana), Bow Pose on a bolster (Dhanurasana), Camel Pose (Ustrasana), Intense Stretch of the Dorsal Pose (Paschimottanasana), Sukha Poorvaka Pranayama with retention, Corpse Pose (Savasana) and a closing prayer of gratitude.
