In this posture lab, you will need two blocks, a blanket, a chair, and a wall to use as props. In the spirit of the third limb of the 8 Limbs of Yoga, Asana, we will explore techniques to stabilize and steady the body while also finding comfort and ease in the shapes (Sthira Sukham Asanam). The sequence begins with Adho Mukha Svanasana, Anjaneyasana and Uttanasana as a warm-up, and then Eka Pada Utkatasana in a chair, Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Trikonasana, Virabhadrasana 2, Utthita Parsvakonasana and Upavishta Konasana and a supine hip opener on the wall. The sequence includes externally rotated hip openers and leads to an exploration of the four poses mentioned in the Hatha Yoga Pradiprika; Simhasana, Bhadrasana, Siddhasana, and Padmasana. We will also be chanting 40 of the original names of the asanas described in the Hatha Ratnavali from the 15th Century followed by Savasana and a closing prayer of gratitude.
