Posture Lab: Dhyana and Yin Yoga
This posture lab will use a wall, two blankets, and blocks and will include some dynamic hip openers to prepare for a Yin Yoga practice. Yin Yoga incorporates long-held passive poses that are maintained for at least 120 seconds. It is designed to help release the connective tissue (the shrink wrap in the body) and promote feelings of calmness and serenity. Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the theme of Dhyana (meditation) that we are working on this week. The sequence includes Downward Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana), Low Lunges (Anjaneyasana), Triangle Pose (Trikonasana), Warrior 2 (Virabhadrasana 2), Viparita Karani (Leg's Up the Wall) variations including Bound Angle Pose (Baddha Konasana), Dead Pigeon (Supta Kapotasana), Frog Pose (Bhekasana) with Happy Baby (Ananda Balasana) variation, Lizard Pose (Utthan Pristhasana), Pigeon Pose (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana), meditation with Japa Mala Mantra (Ahem Prema), Corpse Pose (Savasana) and a closing prayer of gratitude.
