Abi Mavericke (she/her)

Abi Mavericke (she/her) is a cisgender, white, able-bodied yoga teacher, psychotherapist and above all a human. Abi's journey with yoga began with Hatha yoga at Kripalu. For those who don’t know, ‘hatha’ comes from the Sanskrit words ‘ha’ (sun) and ‘tha’ (moon), symbolizing the delicate balance between heating up, challenging ourselves physically and emotionally, and then cooling down. This practice is all about cultivating strength and force while also embracing the essential joy of rest.
Abi teaches in a way that helps students develop a practice of both discipline and surrender. She hopes her classes provide a space in which students feel safe, challenged, and supported. Honestly, the most important thing to Abi is to just show up—whether you’re sweating, smiling, surrendering, or simply hanging out in child’s pose for the entire class. She will be thrilled that you came!
Now for the labels that accompany Abi: She is a 30-something-year-old, cisgender, white, heterosexual, able-bodied female from New England with some financial security. She completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at Kripalu in 2014 and continued on to a 500-hour YTT through both Kripalu and Jivamukti. She has additional training in restorative yoga and meditation. And has a strong interest in and personal practice of Ayurveda. By day…and honestly sometimes by night, she is a psychotherapist specializing in eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and trauma. She is an avid mountain biker, runner, camper, hiker, laugher, and board game enthusiast.
