Kula Flow: A Simple Start

e-ryt 500 yoga teacher and teacher trainer based in brooklyn, ny.  i started practicing yoga up in boston in my late teens, immediately after a period of massive (less than healthy) weight loss, and just before...
(suggested props: 2 blocks, a blanket, and a chair — you can you a coffee table, couch, bench - whatever you have close by!)

It’s a new day, a new week, a new month, a new year, and yesterday brought new moon. With all this new-ness in the air, we take time in this practice to move slowly and mindfully, and to refresh our understanding of key foundational, lateral standing poses. These poses connect us to our roots and our steadiness, while they simultaneously open and prepare the hips for whatever comes our way next.

(Int/Adv) Kula Flow is vinyasa (or flow) style yoga with an emphasis on creativity and alignment. Classes are inventive and thoughtful sequences of sun salutations, standing & seated postures, back bending, and inversions—guided by a steady breath to tone and calm the mind. Most teachers also use bandha work to open and strengthen the inner body. (Classes differ in tone and vigor depending on the teacher, so if you have special needs/interests please contact [email protected]) For students with a regular yoga practice.
