e-ryt 500 yoga teacher and teacher trainer based in brooklyn, ny.  i started practicing yoga up in boston in my late teens, immediately after a period of massive (less than healthy) weight loss, and just before...
(suggested props: 2 blocks and a sandbag or something else that weighs 10-ish pounds.... totally fine if you don't have this prop as well)

The dog days of Summer are here; the kids are poppin' wheelies on their bikes in the streets and the yogis are pressing up into urdhva dhanurasana (wheel pose) the studio or maybe at home. This class attempts to prep you for wheel pose by addressing three main areas that can sometimes hold us back from getting up into the pose: the length of the side body and the range of motion we have in both shoulder flexion and hip extension.

(intermediate) We used to think that an hour was way too short for a yoga class, and then we discovered the Kula Hour: A 65 minute straight up shot of all the good stuff. (Of course a Kula hour lasts just a little longer than a NYC hour.) For 60 minutes we have at it, Kula style. 5 minutes of blissful rest follow.
