My first experience practicing yoga was printing out Yoga Journal sequences from the online magazine, using them to support the running I was doing as a high school track athlete. For the following decade, I practiced asana and meditation through online websites, DVDs, and large classes in my college's gymnasium. But my practice began to really unfurl, and capture my attention in a new way, when I began to regularly attend classes at studios in Pittsburgh, including One Point One. In fact, I completed Sadhana twice—once on the student track, and once on the teacher track! In January of 2024, I started a commitment to One Point One’s 300 hour teaching program, and I often seek out workshops on fascia and myofascial lines, assisting, philosophy, and meditation. I believe that there is space for everyone within yoga's many schools and disciplines, and I love the spontaneous "aha!" moments—both in my own practice and on students' faces—when something specific clicks into place and enlarges one's understanding of what yoga can be, and what the body and mind are capable of. I strive to offer students a calm, supportive, and joyful place to observe their bodies, breathing, and minds, with inclusive cues and variations. It's a gift to get to do this, and I keep that in mind every time I move or teach.
Outside of yoga, I work at an online literary magazine and live with my poet husband and two cats. I still run (less competitively!), love to be outside in any capacity, anguish over the Penguins, write, craft, and read... a lot.
In my class, expect: Curiosity, attentiveness, and laughter, with supportive touch as an option. Each class builds gently in heat and movement from the ground up, with time to feel into how a pose meets the body, and time to tune into the breath. Suitable for all levels, from brand-new beginner to experienced practitioner.
