All yoga promotes a mind-body connection. Somatic yoga is a movement therapy that dives deeper on a cellular level; a way of re-educating how our brain senses and moves our muscles.

Sensory-focused yoga slows down and distills movement to its most basic parts. When we gently and mindfully concentrate our attention on the smallest detail of movement, our brain can log all the sensations. Muscles can become tight or restricted due to development reasons, habitual patterns (samskaras), emotional stress, injuries, surgery, or trauma. Somatic yoga can help rewire these connections with compassion and ease.

The movements are small, with multiple repetitions so that one can drop into an organic rhythm with the hope to release thought and allow the body to simply take over. Our focus is to build greater awareness and practice letting go.

We will conclude with Yoga Nidra, “the sleep of the yogis.” This is an opportunity to release into an extended and deep savasana; traveling into the subconscious and unconscious realms of the mind.
