Transcend Module 1: Foundation of Self-History of Yoga

September is a great time for new beginnings. This is a perfect time for organization and new routines; even a great time of year to set a resolution to carry you forward! In this Module, you will be introduced to the History of Yoga, tap into the world of Yogic Philosophy(koshas/kleshas) and be introduced to Yoga Psychology. You’ll learn where and how it all began while diving deep into your own story of origin, your ‘hero’s journey’. With varied applications (think ancient rituals and mysticism meets traditional western culture), you’ll gain an understanding of your story from then until now and recognize personal patterns of emotion, thought and behavior. You will then become the author of your new story. With the help of the ancient texts and contemporary studies, you will build confidence and courage! It’s excavation time!  Chip away at the old and make room for the new. 

Topics in this Module will include, but are not limited to:
  • Deeper study of yoga philosophies 
  • Ancient and traditional texts: The Yoga Sutras & The Bhagavad Gita
  • Embodiment of yoga philosophy: yoga lifestyle, such as the precept of non-violence(Ahimsa) and the concepts of dharma and karma
  • Understanding the value of yoga as a service and being of service to others (Seva)
  • Understanding and embodying the art of authenticity (Satya)

Each class will include: 
सधना Sadhana (ritual), yoga asana, meditation, pranayama (breathing techniques), history, philosophy, book study, composition, lecture & discussion
