It is estimated that almost 80% of adults in the U.S. experience anticipatory anxiety and/or sadness on Sunday evenings over something that hasn’t happened yet - Monday morning. In addition to psychological distress, the Sunday Scaries, (aka late-weekend blues) can also cause physical discomfort, sometimes arriving in the form of muscle aches, jaw-clenching, restlessness, headaches, and gastro-intestinal upset.

Yin Yoga can help. Yin is often referred to as “the other half” of Yoga. The opposite of power or vinyasa (Yang) style classes, Yin Yoga classes consist of poses that are passively held on the floor for several minutes at a time, relying on gravity to support the postures while targeting the fascia and connective tissue, rather than the musculature of the body. Yin calms the mind, reduces stress, stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, and helps increase range of motion and elasticity in the joints. In Yin we practice stillness and presence in the current moment, accepting whatever arises then allowing it to release, cultivating mindfulness, patience, and gratitude.

Allow Yin Yoga to become part of your life. Bring balance to your Yang-filled schedule and combat the Sunday Scaries. Leave class feeling calm, grounded, and balanced with patience and self-compassion - ready for a good night of sleep and armed with tools to accept what arrives on Monday morning.
