There is a reason that the Osa lays claim to the origin of Kula. The peninsula is one of the most biodiverse places on earth and has changed the lives of many who have walked curiously into its lush jungle canopy. The pristine rainforests and rugged beauty of this secluded natural wonderland will instantly transport you away from the upheaval of these past few years and deposit you into a place that is grounding, inspirational, and always offers illuminating perspective. Boca Sombrero Surf & Yoga is our kula away from Kula: a rustic eco retreat center situated on a private surf break with a gorgeous open air yoga deck, a swimming pool, plenty of space to chill, and a range of lodging options to fit all tastes and budgets.

Who this retreat is for: any seeker who gravitates towards the rustic, unadulterated, glitz free nooks of the world, and welcomes living as close to nature as they can get. Prepare to spend the week living on the wild side, most likely in your bathing suit and with bare feet. There is surf in February, but you are not at all required to be a surfer or even want to learn in order to participate in this retreat! Who this retreat is not for: anyone looking for fluffy white towels, air conditioning, or room service.

Warning: epiphanies have been known to happen, in the most unexpected of ways!

A little about the surf: This is one of the warmest, most pristine spots in Central America. The private beach break at Boca Sombrero is ideal for beginners who want to learn to surf as well as intermediate level surfers. No rocks! (A few miles away is Matapalo—a world class point break). If you're not a surfer—and determined not to be converted during our week together—you'll have plenty to keep you busy. Besides the copious amounts of yoga, near the retreat center you will discover waterfalls, gorgeous hiking trails, and loads of wildlife.

Includes: accommodation, meals, + 2 yoga classes daily

Not included: extras (massage, surfing lessons, board rental), flights, taxi to retreat center, and any Covid-19 testing required to return home.

Nikki has been traveling to the Osa for the past two decades, and considers it her favorite place on the planet. If she could manage a way to create a Kula Osa, she would! She is co-director of Kula and is a teacher who loves getting her hands on you in class. She is attracted to the ability yoga has to combine precise physical movement, intelligence, and intention into one sweaty, uplifting experience.

Rebecca fell in love with the Osa Peninsula and Kula around the same time. She is thrilled to be teaching with her work-wife/inspiration Nikki in this magical place. She thinks of yoga as a practice of quiet self-observance free from judgement. Structured around breath and space, her classes include elements of her background in Iyengar, Ashtanga, dance, therapeutic yoga, and Kundalini.

All pricing listed is per person.
Please check with Jen before submitting payment to ensure your lodging choice is available.

Obviously, Covid is far from “over” and things come up. For this reason, you are advised to purchase travel insurance to protect your investment. We use www.squaremouth.com, which is an aggregator site (similar to Skyscanner) you can use to book the most appropriate policy for your trip. Please reach out with questions.

*please inquire if you would like suggestions for extending your trip either at Boca Sombrero or elsewhere in Costa Rica.

Flights:
One flight to SJO (San Jose, Costa Rica)
Connecting flight to Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica.

We recommend using
Sansa for the connecting flight.
You need 2 hours between flights to make the connection.
Therefore: plan to land in San Jose before 12 noon if you want to make the trip in one day. Otherwise we can suggest hotels for an overnight in San Jose.
We usually stay at the Marriott San Jose in ALAJUELA. Next door to the airport and very easy for early connections.
Please do not book an international flight without first looking over the local flight options to Puerto Jimenez the day you wish to connect.

Vaccination is not required for entry to Costa Rica; however, it is required for this retreat out of respect for those who live and work at Boca Sombrero, our colleagues and friends for 20+ years. Thank you for respecting this policy.
