Background:
Yoga for Osteoporosis is a targeted practice developed by Dr. Loren Fishman, MD. for  maintaining a healthy skeleton, strengthening posture and improving balance. This  unique set of 24 poses was practiced by individuals with Osteoporosis in specialized  studies. Upon completion, data showed that consistent practice reversed the effects of  osteoporosis/osteopenia in the spine and hips. Dr. Fishman's research was featured in  the New York Times, drawing public awareness to potential application of yoga to bone  conditions. To date, Dr. Fishman continues to train yoga instructors in his specialized  method, as well as study additional postures and conduct long term studies.

Workshop Benefits:
In this 6 session workshop, students will be introduced to Dr. Fishman’s Yoga for  Osteoporosis method, so that they can begin to establish/reaffirm their own home  practice. Specific attention will be given to the spine and hips, as these are fracture risk  areas. In addition to learning technical aspects of the yoga postures, students will work  on gaining strength, flexibility, and balance, to improve overall range of motion. Simple  breath work will be incorporated to teach proper hold times and calm the nervous  system. This workshop is open to all levels, regardless of ability, age or medical condition.

*Note: there is a 15-person limit for this series
