Ayuryoga® is a unique system of physical asanas (poses), pranayama (breathwork), and meditation developed by Dr. Vasant Lad, BAM&S, MASc. This practice integrates Ayurvedic principles to harness the therapeutic benefits of yoga, supporting healing at both individual and group levels.
Yoga and Ayurveda are often referred to as sister sciences, each enhancing the other. The ancient Vedic and yogic texts emphasize the importance of a sattvic lifestyle and proper nutrition to support yoga and meditation practices. Both systems recognize that imbalances in the body and mind result from impurities that obstruct the flow of prana (life force).
By incorporating Ayurvedic principles into diet and lifestyle and integrating yoga into our spiritual practice, Ayuryoga® helps clear these blockages, promoting optimal health and elevating consciousness. While many techniques in Ayuryoga®, such as asanas, breathing exercises, and meditation, may be familiar to those experienced in Hatha Yoga, the distinctive feature of Ayuryoga® lies in its application of Ayurvedic principles. This includes understanding the five great elements, the three doshas, and the twenty universal gunas (qualities) to tailor practices for optimal health and healing.
